Event organized on the occasion of the 16th Italian Contemporary Art Day, promoted by the Association of Italian Contemporary Art Museums (AMACI), with the support of the General Direction of Contemporary Creativity of MiBACT, in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
The Italian Institutes of Culture abroad are collaborating in the celebration of this Day, organizing between 5 and 11 December 2020 events aimed at promoting Italian contemporary art in the world and creating contacts and exchanges of ideas between Italian and international artists, encouraging the sharing of experiences and projects.
The Italian Cultural Institute Abu Dhabi present the webinar Contemporary art between Italy and the United Arab Emirates: a glance at the present, between innovation and tradition, that will take place on 10 December at 1 p.m. GST, 10:00 Italian time.
The meeting aims, on the one hand, to present a new generation of Italian painters in the United Arab Emirates, a country that represents a highly interesting crossroads of cultures and is on the way to becoming an increasingly important cultural pole on a global level; on the other hand, we aim at highlighting the effervescent artistic panorama of the United Arab Emirates to the Italian public.
Also due to the presence of an Emirates Pavilion at the Venice Art Biennale, inaugurated in 2014, it seemed appropriate to involve, on the Italian side, Elisabetta Barisoni, head of Ca’ Pesaro – International Gallery of Modern Art, and the artist Paola Angelini, a young painter from the Marche region who can boast artist residences in Venice, both in Ca’ Pesaro and in the Bevilacqua La Masa Foundation.
On the Emirates side, Kevin Jones, art writer and educator (Dubai), and the Iraqi-Saudi calligraphy artist Majid Alyousef (Dubai) will participate.
Ida Zilio-Grandi, Director of the Italian Cultural Institute Abu Dhabi, will introduce and moderate the meeting.
Technical support: Cosmopole L.L.C., Abu Dhabi.
