MUVE Education for the exhibition
On the occasion of the Roberto Matta 1911 – 2002 exhibition at Ca’ Pesaro – International Gallery of Modern Art, the Muve Education Activities Office is arranging a series of activities in the form of guided tours and workshops aimed at schools of all levels and adults.
For Schools
Guided tour: Roberto Matta 1911 – 2002
Although considered one of the most important artists of the twentieth century, Chilean artist Roberto Sebastián Antonio Matta Echaurren (1911 – 2002) has received surprisingly little recognition. Taking as its starting point two extraordinary masterpieces by the artist preserved at Ca’ Pesaro, the exhibition aims to illustrate his skills as a painter, while also revealing the scope of his thinking. A fervent painter and draughtsman, Matta – who worked in Le Corbusier’s studio and defined himself an architect – also worked with different materials, including clay, wood and metal. The guided tour addresses the different themes of the exhibition, exploring the multiplicity and depth of the artist’s production of paintings, drawings and sculptures, reflecting his multifaceted creativity: from architecture to science, literature to linguistics, political interests to mathematics, humour to eroticism.
Target audience: secondary school, university
Duration: 1h 30min
Workshop: Build your own ‘Open Cube’
The activity begins with a selected visit to the artist’s most iconic works in the exhibition, with particular reference to the famous ‘Open Cubes’, a veritable ‘summation’ of his artistic thought: that of a ‘total’ work of art in which he elaborated a personal vision of nature just like an open cube, in which space is no longer the representation of what is seen but the ‘map’ of a new cosmos in which the artist seeks his place. Starting from the observation of some projects made of cardboard and Plexiglas, in the classroom the students build a cube with a template and with the use of tempera colours, sand, clay, wood and other recycled materials with which to experiment with their own vision of reality.
Target audience: secondary school
Duration: 2h
