On the occasion of the eighteenth edition of the Giornata del Contemporaneo (Saturday 8 October 2022), the great event promoted by AMACI – Association of Italian Contemporary Art Museums, and held with the support of the Directorate-General for Contemporary Creativity of the Ministry of Culture, as well as the collaboration of the Directorate-General for Public and Cultural Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ca’ Pesaro – International Gallery of Modern Art presents Laura Omacini’s exhibition Le beatitudini.

For this exhibition at Ca’ Pesaro, Laura Omacini wanted to create a new series of artworks focusing on a subject deeply linked to the city of Venice, which she has been documenting for years through photographs, sketches and notes.

The scaffoldings, climbing around the buildings, with their veils and camouflages, are treated as a characteristic element of the city landscape, whose balance requires continuous care and attention.

A presence both benevolent and invasive, constant and impermanent, these buildings are extrapolated from the urban context and reproduced on collages that collect fragments of images taken from local magazines and newspapers, transforming themselves into membranes capable of containing a story of the present, among whose ripples we can glimpse a series of connections and symbolic references.

The tension between the thickness of the collage and the surface of the pictorial film, along with the contrast between the opacity of the lights and the transparency of the shadows, recreates a water-like movement that breaks down and deforms the field of view, combining the backdrop with the reflections of the sky. Compositions arise, simultaneously evoking the intimacy of the home, of the care, of the daily gesture, and of the otherness of the world, its interference, its generative chaos, opening up to a multiplicity of different interpretations and readings.

The series title invites you to follow a vertical path, leading your eye across the image, through the multiple layers of the representation.

As in previous editions, the Eighteenth Giornata del Contemporaneo (Saturday 8 October) will be characterised by free admission in Ca’ Pesaro.
